Engineering

 

The Engineering Services Department is responsible for maintenance and improvement works providing the management and administrative for the functional areas of Councils Engineering Services comprising of; rural roads, town streets, stormwater drainage, culverts asset management, water/sewerage, plant, depot, parks, sporting and recreational facilities, technical support, saleyards and noxious weeds. 
 
To efficiently and effectively manage the capital, labour, plant and materials resources made available to the Department, There are FOUR operational divisions to maximise their delivery of engineering services to the community in accordance with Council's Management Plan

Asset Management aims to establish and maintain assets which enhances the public domain and improves the amenity of the Shire.

Water/Sewerage manages the supply of potable water to the towns of Narromine, Trangie and Tomingley,.  
Plant aims to efficiently manage Council's plant fleet within Council's Management Plan and a 10 year replacement program

Engineering Services provides saleyards services, operates the Narromine Aerodrome, maintains cemeteries within the Shire, maintains and emergency services.

MANAGER ROADS - Manages the civil operations works within Council
  • Roads maintenance operations
  • Civil works for rural and urban maintenance and road construction programs
  • Implements planned maintenance schedules and capital improvement works programs
  • Implements the Council Quality Assurance System.
 
ROAD SAFETY & ASSETS MANAGER - Manages the civil assets and road safety within Council
  • Establish and maintain assets which enhances the public domain and improves the amenity of the shire
  • Manages the public and civil liability exposure of the department.
  • Manage and develop a comprehensive maintenance strategy for all Council assets Strategic management of Council’s civil assets, (roads, bridges, stormwater, footpaths sports fields, traffic facilities, etc), and control, rolling capital works programs
DESIGN AND AERODROME MANAGER - Manages the aerodrome, quarries & technical specifications within Council
  • Responsible for the RTA single invitation Contract and Quality Assurance program
  • Management of the airport, Design & traffic management, development assessment and pre-construction tasks.

ROAD NETWORK
The Engineering Services Department is responsible for maintaining1602.9km of road pavement as follows;
  • 58.88 kms of town streets within Narromine, Trangie and Tomingley
  • 153.62 kms of Regional Roads,
  • 574.955 kms of sealed and 777.955 kms unsealed Local roads, and
  • 37.49 kms of State Road on MR No.89 (Tomingley Road) under the RTA Single Invitation Contract
 
WATER-
Three potable water supplies schemes, one each for Narromine, Trangie and Tomingley supplied through a total of 56.5kms of reticulation mains for the three schemes to a quality that adheres to National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) drinking water quality standards.
 
SEWER –
The sewer is reticulated through a total of 40 km’s of reticulated mains and 10km of rising mains for the two schemes and then treated to a quality that adheres to Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
