Welcome to Narromine Shire Council

Narromine is where you come to meet the magnificent plains of the Central West. Straight roads, an abundance of native wildlife and beautiful sunsets are all part of our appeal. This area is rich in agriculture and home to the livestock, grains, citrus and cotton industries. Come and stay, and let us treat you to good old-fashioned western hospitality.

For those travelling along the Newell Highway, take a short-cut with a difference. Simply turn off the highway at Tomingley, or just after Gilgandra and follow the signs to Narromine. You'll enjoy smooth sealed roads and peaceful drives through some beautiful countryside.

Narromine Shire covers an area of 5,224km2 within Central New South Wales and has a population of approx. 6,800.  The Shire comprises of the three urban centres of Narromine (pop. 3,500) with Trangie (pop. 1,000) 35kms to the West and Tomingley (pop. 50) 35 km to the South.  The remaining 2,250 residents live in the rural area.

Water Usage. During the hot summer months, Narromine Shire Council ask all residents to keep in mind, the way water is used around the home and in the garden. Narromine’s water supply is being affected, due to heavy water usage, causing the town reservoirs to operate at low levels which causes low water pressure. Council’s bores are running to full capacity to keep up with the demand.
Handy hints in being water wise.
