Narromine Floodplain Management Committee
Narromine Shire Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from community members, local industry representatives and environmental groups interested in joining the Narromine Floodplain Management Committee.
The Committee provides an important link between the community and Council and assists with the ongoing management of flood risk in Narromine.
Members will have an opportunity to share their local knowledge and experiences of flooding and help Council understand the issues and concerns that are important to the community.
Council is currently undertaking an update of the Narromine Flood Risk Management Study and Plan.
The update is reviewing previous flood studies and modelling, consulting with the community, reassessing the impacts and risks associated with flooding, and considering potential measures to better manage flood risk into the future.
Potential measures may include improvements to flood infrastructure and drainage, flood planning controls, property modification measures, flood warning and community education.
The Floodplain Management Committee will provide an opportunity for community representatives to contribute to this work and help shape future actions and priorities for managing the Narromine floodplain.
Council is particularly interested in hearing from people who:
- have experienced flooding in Narromine;
- have local knowledge of how flooding has affected their property, street or area;
- have an interest in floodplain management and community resilience;
- represent local industry, community or environmental interests; or
- can provide a different perspective on the social, economic, environmental or other impacts of flooding.
What is involved ?
The commitment is expected to be relatively small. The Committee's immediate role will primarily be to provide community feedback and local knowledge to assist with the current floodplain management planning process.
The first Committee meeting is proposed for 5:30 pm on Wednesday 16th September 2026.
A further meeting is likely to be held in 2027 to review community feedback, consider the draft Flood Risk Management Study and Plan and discuss the proposed actions.
Expressions of Interest are invited from interested community members and representatives.
If you are interested in being involved or would like further information, please contact Narromine Shire Council on 02 6889 9999 or email mail@narromine.nsw.gov.au by 1st September 2026.
Council will consider all EOIs when determining community representation on the Committee.
