Final Stage of Narromine Heavy Vehicle Bypass Now Underway

Narromine Shire Council has commenced works at the intersection of Gainsborough and Tomingley Roads, marking the final stage in completing the Narromine Heavy Vehicle Bypass — a project that began in 2022.

The bypass aims to reduce heavy vehicle traffic along Dandaloo Street, improving safety and amenity within the main part of town.

Director Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Ms Melanie Slimming, said the new intersection will provide a safer and more efficient route for heavy vehicles. “The upgraded intersection includes new left and right turn slip lanes into the western end of Gainsborough Road to better accommodate high volumes of heavy vehicle traffic,” Ms Slimming said.

“This work finalises the bypass route, helping to keep heavy vehicles out of the town centre while improving overall traffic flow and road safety.”

The works are primarily being undertaken on the road shoulders, and minimal disruption to road users is expected throughout construction.

Ms Slimming said Council is mindful of the upcoming harvest period and will ensure that construction does not impact local agricultural operations. “If works are not completed prior to harvest, construction will be temporarily suspended to minimise any inconvenience to road users,” she said.

Council appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out.
