Narromine Shire Council is supporting the Garage Sale Trail and encouraging residents to cash in or grab a bargain when the event occurs over two weekends in November.
Residents across the region are invited to participate in the annual sustainability event which aims to reduce the volume of usable items ending up in landfill while also providing a fun and social way for the community to make and/or save money.
Run across two weekends, 9-10 November and 16-17 November, there is an opportunity for everyone to take part in some way.
Narromine Shire Council’s, Manager Waste and Community Facilities, Anthony Everett highlighted the importance of community involvement. “Selling or shopping at garage sales is a fun and simple action everyone can take to reduce our carbon footprint. The Garage Sale Trail is a great way for residents to come together, declutter, raise money, and keep landfill to a minimum.”
Registration is free and open to households, schools and community groups. Whether you're hosting a sale with friends or fundraising as a school group, everyone is encouraged to join in. Registered participants will receive a variety of tips, tools, and free promotional materials to make hosting easy.
Narromine Shire Council has existing programs that support waste reduction, including the Return and Earn vending machine, green waste services and the Community Recycling Cabinet at the Customer Service and Payments Centre for batteries, mobile phones, printer cartridges, and smoke detectors.
“Supporting the Garage Sale Trail is another step in Council’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. This event allows us to help the community prevent some great items from ending up in landfill,” added Mr Everett.
Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars and register to host a garage sale during the event. To sign up, visit www.garagesaletrail.com.au/narromine and join the movement to reduce waste while having fun.
