New Landcare Coordinator, Ready to make an impact in the Community

Landcare NSW in conjunction with Narromine Shire Council have recently welcomed a new Local Landcare Coordinator to the Narromine/Warren district with Jono Lavender joining the team.

The newly reinstated Landcare Coordinator role has been revitalised with Narromine Shire Council taking on the host role. The program will run from 2019-2023 and is a collaborative endeavour of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW, supported by the NSW Government. The longevity of the role allows the opportunity for long term planning and rollout of programs that can benefit the local community for years to come.

With Macquarie 2100 stepping down from the host role, the group has been renamed to Lower Macquarie Landcare.

The Local Landcare Coordinator role will be participating in natural resource management activities, supporting and increasing community engagement, developing local partnerships, networking with landholders, help to secure resources for projects through grants and empower people to take action on local problems and deliver outcomes across local and regional issues.

Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager, Jane Redden said “Jono is very eager to contribute to the local community, connect with people and get involved in local initiatives as well as environmental and agricultural programs.”

The role is based in Narromine, however the program will be covering a vast area including Tomingley, Trangie and Warren.

“Council is excited to be able to continue the Landcare Coordinator role in Narromine. We are looking forward to working with Landcare to contribute to making a difference to the wider community through the programs initiatives” she said.

If you’re participating in local events in the area, keep on the lookout for Jono, there’s a good chance he will be joining you and connecting with your local district.
